Meta
I use it, http://www.twitter.com/christophera — I have a number of friends that are on it and it is kind of nice to feel a ‘gestalt’ of what everyone is doing. And unlike IM, it is a very casual medium that doesn’t interrupt much (I use growl and twitterific so it fades in and out very fast) and it does not require a timely response. Lately I’ve been using the SMS features of it on the iPhone, as SMS is push and they are nice to browse though.
Added you. I’m kallewoof.
I’ve got a twitter account page, but I have only used it twice. I find it a little difficult to remember to use it when I have subscriptions to a million services. Reminds me of the Facebook ‘writing on the wall’ sort of thing. I just don’t really figure that anyone would care in the least that at the moment I am reading a certain book or watching such-and-such on tv. Of course, it may be linked to the same reason I don’t like mobile technology — I don’t really like people being able to get in touch with me every minute of the day (or in this case, know what I’m doing at any given point)
I don’t really see the point, this blog/IM mashup of sorts. Maybe in a few years I’ll suddenly have a eureka moment and start using it, but right now… no.
I think the point behind twitter is to “IM everybody who cares”, just like the point behind blogs (partially) is to “talk to everyone who cares”. I may not care about you reading a specific book but that’s not really the point. Similarly, there may not be a point in me writing about the latest in my life, but that’s the beauty with blogs.
Nicole~> You’re on facebook?
Me too! I found people I hadn’t heard from in 11 years on that thing so I’ll definitely stick around there for awhile.
